El Salvador has a population of over 6.2 million people, making it the most densely populated country in Central America. Football is the most popular sport in El Salvador. El Salvador's qualification to the 1982 World Cup in Spain was the only event that kept the country united during the Civil War that took place in El Salvador from 1980-1992. "For one moment people forgot about the bullets and the war in this country", says Norberto Huezo in reference to the reaction people had to El Salvador's qualification to the World Cup. The 12 year conflict forced many families to abandoned the country and start a new life. There are over 3 million Salvadorans living outside of El Salvador, with 84% of that population living in the United States. The rest reside in countries such as Italy, Australia, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Spain, Belgium and others around Europe and Asia. All of these people took their passion for football along with them. We believe that there are many second generation Salvadorans around the globe who carry that passion for Salvadoran football in their hearts and have dreams of some day representing El Salvador at the national team level for those talents we've created SelectaTalent.com!
